I have been practically LIVING in this lipstick the last few weeks, I love it so much I even wore it out for my birthday a few weeks back!
Hourglass Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipstick in Icon* is what I think the ultimate nineties red, in a real matte, velvet finish that the likes of Drew Barrymore and Gwen Stefani would have favoured back then. It is pretty much my perfect lipstick; outstanding pigment, matte, feather light finish, hydrating, non-drying and ridiculously long lasting. Despite all this, it’s really easy to get off when you want it off (comes off with every make-up cleanser/remover I’ve tried it with thus far).
No manky dry bits hanging off of your lip, nor colour bleeding or any uncomfortable tight feeling you often have to suffer with long lasting mattes. Nope, this is literally some miraculous formula.
It applies liquid and wet. You then rub your lips together and make sure the colour’s placed exactly how you want, and then let set for a minute or so with your mouth open so there’s no annoying line where the colour stops. I guess you could use a lipliner if you wanted, however I find I don’t need to and the method above works best for me. You can also even build the colour up and add another coat to darken, making a more vampy red!
It lasts exceptionally well, however there is a little transfer with drinking (colour stays in tact on lips, though!) and if you’re eating greasy foods the oils will naturally break down the formula a little, so be careful of that. For normal wear it’s great though, and I never find myself having to touch up when out and about. It really is the perfect comfortable, long wear, true matte lippy.
It’s priced at £23, which is a little pricy but not ridiculously so – I might have been put off by the price initially had I never tried it – I do have a million other red lippies, after all – but now I’ve tried it I genuinely think it’s worth every penny!
I was sent a couple of other shades of these Hourglass Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipsticks, so look out for individual reviews on those soon! But yep, definitely a huge, massive thumbs up and I will be for sure adding more to my collection (FYI, I’ve only managed to spot them in Space NK, so far) – I already have my eye on Riviera; a vibrant, true tangerine!
