I’ve had a haircut! And quite a drastic change in length from what I usually get.. What do you think? I absolutely love it! I had it done at Aveda in London and I definitely think it’s one of the best haircuts I’ve ever had.

It was bit of an impulsive decision going so short, but I just wanted to get rid of the ratty ends and work towards getting my hair back to its former, pre-ombre, healthy state. It was all part of a master hair plan that I literally came up with the day before; cut the damage off, dye back to black, then get a super long mermaid weave like Vanessa Hudgens. But I’m so thrilled with it this length the weave might have to wait!

Subrina Kidd, Aveda’s Master Director, seemed to know exactly what I wanted without me really having to say much. I basically said I didn’t want harsh, blunt, blocky layers, especially around my jaw line, and just something that would style easily and minimally. A little  grungy and boho. I got exactly what I wanted. If anything it looks even better today after having slept in it, with my natural kinks in (check my instagram for a pic of it freshly done). She 100% nailed my relaxed, undone hair vibe.

The whole weave thing is on hold for now, however I have ordered some Dirty Looks HK Clip-in Extensions to tide me over in case I do miss having long hair. It’s probably a good idea, actually, simply to see if I even like myself with such long, thick hair before jumping straight in. Next step – back to black! Eek!

Aveda Lifestyle Salon & Spa

For more information on booking in with Subrina or any other Aveda stylist, visit the Aveda Lifestyle Salon and Spa website. It’s worth noting that whatever your hair type and texture, Aveda are fully equipped and trained for it. It didn’t even occur to me until recently that some salons don’t cater for afro/black hair, I just find that insane! But Aveda do. So whatever your hair type, you’re in safe, knowledgeable hands!

Lastly, if you have any advice or tips on getting a ‘white girl weave’ (apparently this is what I need to ask for when booking – the horror), or better still, a good place to get it in London or SE, please share! I am digesting all the info I can right now so I’m fully prepared when the time comes. I’m already trying to figure out how you’re meant to get a haircut with one already in..
