I am forever purchasing lipstick from various brands in essentially the same shade, almost always unintentionally. Recently this happened with a Morphe liquid lipstick. Thinking I had potentially found the ultimate peachy nude that my collection was lacking in, I realise upon arrival it’s actually very similar to a liquid lipstick I was sent by By Chloe Ferry (yup, Chloe Ferry of Geordie Shore fame). But which was the best? Here’s a comparison of the two.
The two shades I’m talking about today are the Morphe Liquid Lipstick in Brunch and the By Chloe Ferry Matte Lip Gloss in Passion.
I don’t know whether it’s because I’ve been actively reading up on Morphe liquid lipsticks, but I do feel there was a little bit of hype surrounding them. I’m guessing this is largely down to how affordable they are. The By Chloe Ferry lipsticks, on the other hand, I haven’t actually heard much about, other than being vaguely aware she had her own lipstick collection out.
When it came to texture, I prefer the By Chloe Ferry liquid lipstick (technically labelled as Matte Lip Gloss). It goes on evenly and the colour can be built up nicely, without looking stark and heavy on the lip – even when a second coat is applied. The Morphe liquid lipstick dries on to a more mousse finish and looks very matte (I liken it to how the NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams wear). It’s a nice finish, very strong colour pay off, but for that particular shade it almost looked a little chalky on me against my skin.
Longevity wise the Morphe liquid lipstick won hands down. It lasted hours and hours, well over eight. The Chloe Ferry liquid lipstick lasted okay, but definitely began to fade within four hours and would come completely off with eating/drinking. Although reapplication was easy, and didn’t cake onto residue lip product, for a liquid lipstick I would really expect better lasting power.
Colour wise, this is all down to preference. I actually really like both shades and there’s little between them once applied. On me, they are bright biscuity coral nudes. The Morphe liquid lipstick is a truer pale coral (think Brigitte Bardot lipstick), whilst the By Chloe Ferry liquid lipstick is a pinky coral. I love how the Chloe Ferry liquid lipstick looks on me, it really brightens up the rest of my face! Especially with a stronger eye. The Morphe liquid lipstick looks good too, but it’s perhaps a little too pale for my skin tone. I still really like it though, just feel I will always end up reaching for the By Chloe Ferry one instead as there’s little difference in shade but it just has that extra hint of pink, which suits my complexion better.
Winner? The Morphe liquid lipstick is actually a longer lasting, thus better quality lipstick at a very affordable price point (£10.50). However, the By Chloe Ferry liquid lipstick – at least in this shade – looks more beautiful on and although inevitably having to do it more often, it applies better. The thing that really let it down for me is the pricing. At £14.99 it’s too high compared to competitor brands (such as Jeffree Star) that are better quality/lasting power, but similarly priced. If it was priced at £10 however this could be a real neck and neck situation. Having said all this, because of how much I love the colour on me, I can definitely see myself repurchasing.
I’m definitely keen to try more Morphe liquid lipsticks in different colours and see if that transforms the product for me. Perhaps in the shade Morphe, which looks like it might be a beautiful, cool tone red. Coupled with that mousse, velvet finish it has the potential to look amazing.. Watch this space!
Which one was the winner for you?
